How do I import my existing family tree?
Import a GEDCOM file from any genealogy software to bring your existing research into GTF.
If you have a family tree in another program, you can import it using a GEDCOM file.
Exporting from Other Software Most genealogy programs (Ancestry, FamilySearch, RootsMagic, etc.) can export to GEDCOM format. Look for "Export" or "Download GEDCOM" in your current software.

Importing to GTF
- Sign in to your GTF account
- Click "Upload GEDCOM" in the sidebar
- Drag and drop your .ged file or click to browse
- Wait for processing (larger files take longer)
- Review the import summary
What Gets Imported
- People and their details
- Relationships
- Dates and places
- Notes and sources
- Media references (files need to be uploaded separately)
